A MORPETH disability support worker is keeping her fingers crossed for a Christmas number one.
Laura Gubbins has been working with the British Paraorchestra since the summer and was on hand to help when the musicians made their official debut at Orchestra in a Field in Glastonbury.
Since then, the group has gone on to perform at the London 2012 Festival, composed and recorded the theme music for Jon Snow’s Paralympic Show on Channel Four and performed at the closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games.
Now the orchestra has set its sights on the music charts after releasing the single True Colours, featuring British Paralympians and The Kaos Singing Choir for Deaf and Hearing Children.
Ms Gubbins, who provides support to help members get around, said: “I have been working with the British Paraorchestra on lots of different projects whenever I can.
“I missed the closing ceremony of the Games, but I was there at the Orchestra in a Field and during the recording of the single.
“We are really hoping that it gets to Number One for Christmas. I feel it has all the right elements and after the amazing summer and everything that happened around the Paralympics, it is perfect timing. It even has Paralympic athletes giving their support.”
The orchestra was founded by conductor Charles Hazlewood to recognise and showcase disabled musicians with extraordinary abilities.
