A FORMER MP has been named President of Northumberland Wildlife Trust (NWT).
Chris Mullin has taken on the role following the death of his predecessor Sir John Riddell in July 2010.
Mr Mullin was a journalist for World in Action and editor of the Tribune newspaper between 1982 and 1984. He was elected MP for Sunderland South in 1987.
A keen walker and gardener, with an interest in the reconstruction of walled gardens, he is also Chairman of the Heritage Lottery Fund for the region.
NWT Chief Executive Mike Pratt said: “Chris is well respected by all parties and is influential, but incredibly modest.
“He’s an original thinker and a visionary, is able to grasp the bigger picture and appreciates the Wildlife Trust movement’s landscape scale conservation campaigning. We are all delighted that he will be our new President.”
