BUS and rail services in Northumberland will come into focus as passengers are asked their views on future public transport plans.
Northumberland County Council has published a draft Public Transport Strategy, which sets out how it expects to work with operators and communities over the next five years to meet the needs of residents, commuters and visitors.
The document will also consider what passengers should expect when using public transport.
And one of the suggestions for the strategy is to campaign for later train services from Newcastle to Morpeth.
The report says that with the last train currently at 10pm, fewer people head to Newcastle for an evening out by rail than otherwise would.
Also among the council’s priorities is improving accessibility to railway stations. At Morpeth work is due to start this spring on the provision of a long-awaited 92-space car park at the station.
The strategy also includes trying to co-ordinate bus timetables and ensuring a regular service to the coast.
Council Executive Member for Infrastructure and Environment Isabel Hunter said: “This is a comprehensive strategy and we are asking everyone with an interest in public transport in Northumberland to share their views on it with us.
“Whilst we may not be able to put all suggestions into action because of limited available funds, we still want to hear from you.”
The draft document can be viewed on the council’s website at www.northumberland.gov.uk or a copy can be obtained by calling 0845 600 6400.
