SURVEY forms will be landing on doormats across the county to help assess housing needs.

Northumberland County Council has commissioned the research to help draw up suitable strategies to ensure residents’ needs are met.

The survey is being sent to more than 18,000 randomly selected households, and to all tenures, including private and social housing.

People will be asked to comment on topics such as whether their current accommodation is adequate and what they think their future requirements might be.

It is valuable for people to complete the questionnaire, even if they are not planning to move.

Council Executive Member for Housing and Planning Tom Brechany said: “The council is required by Government to have a clear understanding of what housing is needed in the county and to carry out a housing survey every few years.

“I would urge anyone who receives a survey to take a few minutes to complete it as it is important that we gain as much feedback as possible. The more returned surveys we receive, the wider an understanding we will have of the current housing needs of the county’s residents and their future aspirations, and will be able to plan better for the future.”

The research is being carried out by DCA, which will also analyse the information on the council’s behalf as the results must be independently assessed.

Anyone who receives the survey can return it by post, or complete it online using details provided on the form.
