BLOOD donors are being urged to make a date in Morpeth tomorrow.

A blood donor session has been organised by NHS Blood and Transplant at Storey Park community centre.

The service says it is doubly important for people to give blood this month as stocks can come under pressure during the winter due to adverse weather conditions and seasonal illness preventing some donors from keeping their regular appointments.

Donated blood is essential for life-saving hospital procedures and is also used for patients undergoing surgery and those with cancer or blood disorders.

Donors should be aged between 17 and 65, though there is no upper age limit for people who have given blood in the last two years.

They should weigh more than 50kg (7 stone 12 lbs) and be in general good health.

The session at Storey Park will run from 1.30pm to 4pm, and from 4.45pm to 7.15pm.

For further information, or to make an appointment to give blood, call 0300 123 2323, or visit the website www.blood.co.uk
