Royal Mail warns of changes to deliveries

POSTAL delivery services are being changed across the Morpeth area.

Royal Mail is writing to residents and businesses throughout the NE61 and NE65 postcode zones to advise of the changes, which will be phased in from this week.

Post will continue to be delivered in the morning and for a longer period during the day, and many customers should still receive their mail by lunchtime.

However, the time they usually receive their post may change as it depends on where they live on revised delivery routes. It could be later or earlier than at present.

When mail volume varies, regular delivery arrangements and times may also be adjusted.

The review is part of modernisation plans for the service.

Royal Mail says the changes are necessary to maintain services and keep prices as low as possible.

With fewer letters posted every day it needs to re-organise delivery routes to be more efficient, and as postmen and women now deliver more larger items new equipment will be introduced to carry them more securely and reduce the risk of injury to staff.

Collections and Delivery Sector Manager Gary Hall said: “We are proud of the high regard in which our postmen and women are held in the NE61 and NE65 postcode areas.

“The changes to delivery routes will mean that a member of our local and experienced team will still be delivering to customers in these areas.

“The local delivery team and I are fully committed to providing a high quality of service that is as reliable and friendly as customers have come to expect from Royal Mail in the Morpeth area over many years.”

If customers have any queries about the changes after they have received their letter they should contact the Customer Services Team on 0845 6011399 or Textphone 0845 6000606.
