A BID to create the world’s biggest red nose will take place at Northumberland’s newest landmark.
The Comic Relief initiative will be held at the Northumberlandia landform sculpture and park on Monday. And members of the public are being called on to make sure it is a success.
Chief Executive of The Land Trust, which manages the feature, Euan Hall said: “Although a lady would never tell, Northumberlandia’s nose is 9.7m wide, cheek to cheek, the width at the top of the nose is 3.2m and the height is 4.6m.
“We can’t think of a bigger nose so we are going to need as many people as possible to get involved and help Northumberlandia show her support for Red Nose Day.”
Schools, community groups, workplaces and individuals are all being invited to help create the giant nose by making a 1m square red collage.
It can be made from any material that will withstand the elements for a few hours, but it is suggested that unwanted red clothes could be used, which could be cashed in after the event to raise funds for Comic Relief.
Red clothing can be handed in at the Northumberlandia site during opening hours, from 9.30am to 4pm each day, or at tourist information centres across the county, including Morpeth, by Monday.
