A HOPEFUL tweet allowed a bunting businesswoman to spread her wings by being part of a popular television show.
And Emma Scott, who lives in Espley near Morpeth, also used social networking to offer her services for a major charity event launch in London.
She saw a message on Twitter by Mark Millar, who is part of the core team for the DIY SOS programme, urging people to get involved with a project in Chesterfield to help the Watson family.
After saying she would be willing to do something, Mrs Scott was asked to make hand-stitched personalised bunting for a young child’s bedroom. The episode was aired a week last Tuesday.
“I have always been a fan of the show and so I jumped at the opportunity to be involved with one of the projects,” she said. “Following my tweet I was put in touch with the programme’s head interior designer and she sent me her mood board to show what she was going to put in the daughter’s room.
“I was asked to do two buntings to go from the middle of the room above the bed to opposite corners, with both spelling out her name (Madison).
“I then sent her images of the fabrics I could use which were a similar colour to the features she was going to have and I was pleased that she trusted me to go ahead and make the buntings because she didn’t see what I had done until I arrived at the house.
“It was a fantastic feeling to be involved with the programme as it helps people who deserve support and is a great example of how many people in Britain rally round to assist those in need.”
Mrs Scott started her Little Bundles business as a hobby seven years ago, but as word spread about her talents she was able to turn her artistic skills into a full-time job.
She initially started off making flags for children and then expanded to weddings, birthdays, Christenings and bespoke designs for other special occasions.
The businesswoman is very active on Facebook and Twitter and it was through those websites that she was asked to create more than 100 metres of bunting for Oxfam GB’s International Women’s Day launch in London this week.
The charity is encouraging females to come together and hold fund-raising events on March 8 to support women around the world.
In partnership with Morpeth’s Oxfam branch and Whistles and Bells Wedding and Party Packages, Little Bundles is hosing a Get Together with the Girls party at La Bodega in Newgate Street.
Mrs Scott said: “It was a great honour to do my bit for a fantastic charity and hopefully the event in Morpeth will be a success.
“Those of us involved will be contacting local businesses to ask them to donate raffle prizes and sell tickets.”
Details of the event will be advertised in Oxfam in Bridge Street in the coming weeks. For more information, speak to store manager Janice Bowden or follow Mrs Scott on Twitter — @LittlebBunting
Until the end of January, the business is offering a five percent discount off all bunting and making a matching five percent donation to Oxfam GB. To find out more visit www.little-bundles.co.uk
