TRIBUTES have been paid to a well-known face at Morpeth Golf Club after he died in hospital following a short illness.
Martin Jackson, who recently celebrated 30 years as professional at Morpeth, would have been 56 later this month.
He was born in Yorkshire and played as an amateur at Howley Hall before joining Bill Fergusson as his assistant at Ilkley, from where he moved to Northumberland.
A man with a quiet and pleasant disposition, Mr Jackson enjoyed success playing in the PGA North and other regional tournaments.
David Clark, one of his assistants at Morpeth, said: “He was a very conscientious and thoughtful man. His death came as a great shock.”
Mr Jackson is survived by son Robert and daughter Sarah. His wife Janet died of breast cancer seven years ago.
