THE Gary Routledge Ride recently took place through parts of the Northumberland countryside.

This was followed by the Show part of the annual event at Burgham Park, where motorbikes covering the last 70 years were on display.

It raised £1,000 for the Great North Air Ambulance and the Riders for Health charity from a raffle, donations by the bikers and a charity auction that was well supported by North East companies and top GP riders past and present.

A charity ball for Riders for Health was also held on the previous evening. It brought in a total of about £3,000.

One of the main organisers, Steve Johnston, said: “The 2013 ride was tinged with sadness as Graham Turnbull, one of the bikers taking part, was involved in a road accident which tragically resulted in his death. On behalf of all who took part, we would like to extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends.”
