A NEW draft masterplan for the next 20 years has been unveiled by Newcastle International Airport.
The facility, which is on the edge of Ponteland, is in line for major expansion, with potential development including terminal extensions, additional aircraft and car parking, new access arrangements and the creation of more offices, hangars and warehouses.
The airport currently supports 7,800 jobs across the region, but by 2030 it is envisaged to rise to up to 10,000, while the completion of a Southside Development could deliver thousands more.
Last year, the airport delivered an estimated £646million to the regional economy and this too is expected to grow to £1.3billion over the next 20 years.
Consultation with the local community on the plan will run until November and public meetings and roadshows are planned. Comments will be used to draw up the final version of the masterplan. For more information, visit www.newcastleairport.com/masterplan
