SOME business ideas may be pie in the sky, but teamwork is enabling one proposal to earn its crust.
Morpeth pie-maker Gubeon Range is joining forces with The Stables Microbrewery at Beamish Hall, County Durham, to create a new steak and ale pie.
The partnership came about after the pair were introduced at an event organised by Tasteclub, which sources, promotes and sells products, gifts and experiences on behalf of the region’s food and drink businesses.
The Meet and Eat event, which takes place three times a year as a networking evening, was held at Newcastle Falcons and attracted 90 representatives from the industry.
They were able to showcase their products and share ideas, which led to the new pie partnership.
Gillian Robson, from Gubeon Range, said: “We’re still at the experimental stage and deciding which ale will work best.
“The plan is to start with a steak and ale pie to keep things simple, but if that goes well then there’s scope to create various different flavours.”
Beamish Hall Sales Manager Kerry McCabe added: “We first met at Gibside Farmers’ Market and then both attended Meet and Eat. We agreed that we would create a steak and ale pie, using local ale from The Stables and the pie-making expertise of Gubeon Range.”
As a result of Meet and Eat, many more businesses have joined Tasteclub, including Ponteland-based Middlemay Lamb.
Tasteclub Chief Executive Jane Hogan said: “This is just one example of how these networking events are bringing members together and encouraging collaboration.”
