A PONTELAND charity worker has been recognised in the New Year Honours list.
Jacqueline Axelby, of Parklands, Darras Hall, has been awarded the MBE for services to young people with special educational needs.
The 62-year-old is a Trustee and Non-executive Director of Azure Charitable Enterprises, which aims to improve the lives of people who are disabled or disadvantaged and provides education and training for young people with learning difficulties or disabilities.
Ms Axelby retired in 2003 after a 30-year career in NHS management and has served as Chairman of Northumberland Learning and Skills Council. In 2011 she was appointed Chairman of the Board of Isos Housing Group.
