A UNIQUE initiative is taking place on Saturday to showcase the growing number of female entrepreneurs in the county.
Women Mean Business will be packed with stalls sharing what these owners do and how they interact with the public, who can also take part in workshops and taster sessions on the day.
The latest official figures show an almost 10 per cent leap in the number of self-employed women nationally in the last two years, outstripping the 3.3 per cent increase in men setting up their own business.
Julia Lyford from Fourth Action, the group organising the event, said: “Northumberland really is a hotbed for female-owned businesses.
“We want to celebrate and support women across the county who have taken the plunge into starting their own enterprises and encourage more to consider doing the same.
“Our event on International Women’s Day will celebrate women-owned businesses and hopefully inspire visitors who have business ideas of their own.
“We’ll be providing free hands-on advice on the day about the business and grant support that can help you get your own enterprise off the ground.”
As well as supporting those considering starting up, the social enterprise gives established businesses the opportunity to learn and share skills with others in the county.
It is keen to hear from women entrepreneurs who are interested in taking a free stall at the event, which is being held in Northumberland Hall, Alnwick, between 11am and 3pm.
