A Hadston entrepreneur has set up an innovative new company which could potentially save the NHS millions over the coming years.
As elderly emergency admissions to hospitals continue to rise, DJS Telecare will be providing personal alarms and equipment to the general public.
Dean Stackhouse launched the company in May last year and, thanks to support from the free Business Northumberland initiative, has been able to establish and grow the business within the region.
DJS Telecare aims to enable people to live independently in their own homes for as long as they can while also providing peace of mind for friends and family.
Its innovative technology includes Telehealth equipment, which can monitor people’s vital signs like blood pressure remotely, giving people more independence while at the same time making them feel safe and supported if something happens.
The Telecare equipment has a range of sensors which monitor the environment for smoke, gas and CO2 and sensors that monitor the person, such as fall sensors.
All equipment is monitored 24/7 so any device that is activated will be acted upon within seconds by staff at an alarm-receiving centre.
Dean said: “The advice, workshops and mentorship provided by Business Northumberland have been first-class.
“The one-to-one sessions have provided me with a different perspective which has led to new ideas and ways to improve the business. It is very beneficial to hear the views of another party who has a wealth of knowledge and experience in business.”
Last year, the Care Quality Commission showed 530,000 over-65s were admitted to hospitals or saw GPs in England as an emergency for a preventable cause.
Dean said the DJS Telecare products are a potential solution to significantly reducing this number and could save the NHS millions of pounds in the future.
