Senior representatives of Northumberland County Council have met with the Roads Minister to put forward the case for the county’s timber industry to receive more support.

Officers including the executive director of place, Barry Rowland, discussed plans to facilitate timber transport and its infrastructure with Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, Robert Goodwill.

They also talked about how best to reduce the impact of timber transport on rural roads and communities.

The authority is a partner in the North East Timber Transport Forum, which has produced an Agreed Timber Routes Map that is soon to be released.

It has been drawn up to enable wagons to travel along the most suitable roads, avoiding wear to other carriageways and conflict in traffic sensitive areas.
