Speed restrictions and a convoy system will be in place on the A1 at Morpeth.
Resurfacing work is ongoing on the busy route until mid-August and various traffic controls will be in place.
From tomorrow to Monday, a nightly convoy, working with a 40mph and 10mph speed restriction, will run. It will be in place northbound, between 8pm and 6am.
This will be followed by a 24-hour contraflow, with the northbound carriageway shut and all traffic using the southbound road. A 50mph speed restriction will apply throughout the work.
Times could change subject to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
The Highways Agency says all improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
Drivers are advised to keep within the speed limit, get into the correct lane in good time, concentrate on the road ahead rather than the work and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
