A national charity is launching an art group in Ponteland for those with a mental illness.
It is open to people suffering from depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia among other conditions, as well as their families and friends.
The sessions will cater for all abilities and will give people a chance to do art and creative writing and talk about their issues.
Rethink Mental Illness runs hundreds of support groups across England.
Ponteland group co-ordinator Sarah Gonnet said: “Having a mental health problem can be an isolating experience. Due to the stigma which still surrounds mental illness, many people find it hard to speak openly about the struggles they may face.
“This group will be informal, fun and suitable for beginners as well as more experienced artists. It will provide a sympathetic, non-judgemental space where people can share their thoughts and feelings and socialise while learning a new skill.”
It will meet every second and fourth Monday of the month from this Monday (between 10am and noon). For more details, call Ms Gonnet on 07507 453144 or email pon telandartsgroup@rethink.org
