Visitors to the recent Made in the UK exhibition were able to sample a new drink product that will be manufactured and bottled in Morpeth.

Coca-Cola’s water brand, glacéau smartwater, will use spring water sourced in Northumberland. It was selected to be part of the North East stand, organised by all of the region’s local authorities, at the event in Liverpool.

As the Cola Enterprises (CCE) factory in Coopies Lane has been chosen to make the product, which is currently the leading premium water brand in the USA, there will be an investment of £3.5million to update the site’s production lines and introduce new water treatment processes.

Coun Dave Ledger, deputy leader of Northumberland County Council and Arch group chair said: “We were extremely proud to be able to showcase this best-selling global product on our stand and demonstrate the strength of Northumberland as a centre for manufacturing excellence.”
