More services are taking off from Newcastle International Airport, near Ponteland.
Thomson Airways has launched the first long-haul Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight from Newcastle, travelling to Orlando Sanford in Florida and Cancun, Mexico.
The aircraft is designed with comfort and wellbeing in mind and aims to reduce the effects of jet-lag. It can fly further distances than similar sized planes and it is more environmentally friendly, using 20 per cent less fuel.
In another development, Flybe will re-introduce daily flights to Exeter from the airport in October.
