Star student Matthew Thomas simply couldn’t do any better in his GCSE exams.
The delighted youngster, who attends the Royal Grammar School in Newcastle, earned a straight run of 11 A*s in every subject, much to the delight of his family in Morpeth.
“I had been revising hard so I was hopeful, but I never expected all A*s,” he said.
“It was really nerve-racking waiting for the results. I had been worrying all week. It was a really tough wait, but when I got them I was relieved. I was pleased that the hard work had paid off.”
Matthew will now begin A-Levels in maths, further maths, physics and chemistry, with the aim of going on to study astro physics or engineering at Oxbridge.
Kirsty Rickerby, from Belsay, also achieved all A* grades in her GCSE studies at Dame Allan’s Girls’ School, while Daniel Graham, of Morpeth, earned all A*s and As in the Boys’ School.
