The show will go on for villagers after securing a council grant to make the event an annual success.

Pegswood Community Action Group has received £800 from Northumberland County Council’s Community Chest fund to help stage the village show.

The cash will go towards marquee hire.

A spokesman for the group said: “In some areas village shows are beginning to die out, however we wanted to buck the trend and start a new show which would benefit the whole community.

“We want our show to grow to become the social highlight of the year, showcasing the talents of those living in the village and encouraging more people to become active in village life.”

Council Policy Board Member for Corporate Resources Dave Ledger said the authority was happy to help.

“The Pegswood Community Action Group works hard to promote the activities, businesses and groups within the village,” he said.

“We are delighted to have been able to offer financial support for this worthwhile local cause and wish them well with this venture.”

The show includes traditional produce, baking and craft competitions, stalls, games and races, as well as children’s activities.
