A GRUESOME triple murder committed almost a century ago will be brought to the airwaves by Morpeth students.
Pupils and staff at King Edward VI School have recorded a re-enactment of the tragedy for community radio station Synergy.
Titled A Dark Day for Bedlington, the seven-and-a-half minute piece tells the tale of murder at the Sun Inn in Bedlington Front Street West when crazed innkeeper John ‘Jocker’ Amos shot and killed the pub owner’s wife and two policemen on April 13, 1913.
The re-enactment is based on a script by the Sixtownships community history group, which specialises in producing DVDs and books about the industrial and social history of the area.
KEVI Graphics Technician John White, who was a founder member of the South Northumberland Radio Group responsible for Synergy, edited and produced the play and will broadcast it on his drive-time show later this month.
Its airing will tie in with a 28-day FM trial for the station, beginning on Saturday.
Mr White said: “The Bedlington pub killings are certainly among the most notorious murder cases in the region’s history. I’m absolutely delighted that the re-enactment will make its radio debut on my programme.”
Members of the Sixtownships group will be invited on to the show to talk about the murders and other significant historical events.
No firm date has yet been given for the KEVI broadcast.
