People caring for sick or disabled relatives are being encouraged to access the support they need.
Carers Northumberland says that thousands of residents in the county are providing care at home for a loved one, but could be missing out on benefits and practical help.
National awareness campaign Carers Rights Day takes place in the UK tomorrow, and carers are being urged to find out about the rights, benefits and services they are entitled to, including Carer’s Allowance, short breaks, equipment and technology aids.
Carers Northumberland Chief Executive Sharon Spurling said: “We want to let the thousands of carers in Northumberland know where to get information on their rights and entitlements and know they can contact us for advice and information if they look after an older, disabled, frail or ill family member, and to make sure they know how to get financial and practical support.”
The support charity is funded by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust, Big Lottery, Northern Rock Foundation and Northumberland Clinical Commissioning Group.
