Police in Morpeth have warned that thieves are trying to cash in on Christmas.
Officers say criminals are looking to take advantage of insecure homes and vehicles.
Common items stolen year-round include cash, laptops, sat navs, mobile phones and televisions, but over the festive period clothes, perfume, toys and DVDs are also targets.
Residents are urged to be vigilant, keep their property secure and report suspicious activity to police.
Morpeth Neighbourhood Sergeant Sharon Wilmore-Greaves said: “Unfortunately, opportunist thieves are looking to ruin Christmas by stealing at a time of year when people have been buying presents and are preparing for the festive season.
“While we continue to do everything we can to identify thieves and burglars and take action, and additional patrols are taking place, there are steps people can take to reduce their risk of falling victim.”
People should keep homes and vehicles locked, remove valuables from sight and leave a light on when out.
