Police are stepping up their response to tackling anti-social behaviour in Morpeth.
In response to some concerns from residents and businesses in the town, local officers carried out patrols at specific times and locations in November to provide re-assurance that the issues were being addressed.
And last month, there was an eight per cent reduction in nuisance behaviour compared to November 2013, with a 24 per cent fall in youth-related anti-social behaviour.
Morpeth Neighbourhood Sergeant Sharon Wilmore-Greaves said: “Among the main concerns reported by residents and businesses was youths causing a nuisance around the riverside area and littering at the rear of some retail premises in Morpeth town centre.
“As part of the operation, officers have reviewed CCTV and identified offenders causing mess with litter around the retail skip bins. This evidence will be passed on to Northumberland County Council to consider prosecution of the offenders.
“It’s encouraging to note a reduction in youth anti-social behaviour, which sends a clear message that we will not tolerate this behaviour and we will deal with anyone found to be causing a nuisance in the area robustly.”
