MORE than 3,000 acres of farmland owned by Rio Tinto Alcan will be sold as one lot.

The company has farms over 4,700 acres in Northumberland, with 1,000 heads of livestock, and owns about 3,300 acres.

A decision has been taken to sell the land as one lot in the next two years.

Rio Tinto Estates and Farms Director Jim Beattie said: “There has been a decision taken recently as to a way forward and that way forward is that we will be doing a lot behind the scenes this year and into next year with a view to going to the market and selling the farms at the end of 2013/14. The decision has been taken to sell the farms as one lot as a going concern.”
