Charity fund-raisers are heading to Morpeth to seek support for cancer patients and their families.
Macmillan Cancer Support Fund-raisers Sarah Goldie and Jane Curry will come to Storey Park Community Centre tomorrow to explain how people can help the charity.
Ms Goldie said: “There are two million people living with cancer in the UK today and as more people live longer with their cancer this number is set to grow.
“The needs of people affected by cancer are not fully met today, let alone tomorrow, so Macmillan must increase its support for people affected by cancer.
“Right now, we can only reach one in three people who need our help, which is why we vitally need your support. All the money you raise will go towards helping us maintain and develop services in the local area.”
In Northumberland Macmillan provides local support to cancer patients, their carers, families and friends.
It helps to guide them through the system, funds nurses and other specialist health care professionals, provides emotional support, advice and information, and has a team of benefits advisors to help patients claim financial support.
However, the charity relies on public support to enable it to deliver such services.
Ms Curry said: “There are so many ways you can help Macmillan.
“You can join one of our local committees, organise your own fund-raising event, take on a challenge running, hiking or swimming, take part in a Good Night In or the World’s Biggest Coffee morning, or would your company like to choose us as your nominated charity for the year?
“We are also looking for volunteers to represent Macmillan, whether you would like to give talks, attend cheque presentations, do collections or would like to get involved in our new corporate volunteer role.”
For further information speak to the fund-raisers at Storey Park tomorrow, between 11.30am and 4.30pm.
