A contractor has been appointed to help deliver a £2.5million leisure scheme in Northumberland.

Bendcrete will carry out consultation and design work for a community park on the site of the former Druridge Bay Middle School.

The project is part of a wider scheme by Northumberland County Council to improve leisure facilities in the area, including an extension to Druridge Bay Community Centre to provide a gym, new changing facilities and space for cardio and dance classes.

The park plans are subject to consultation, but could include skate facilities, wildlife habitats and paths.

Council Business Chairman Scott Dickinson said: “Local residents told us they would like us to develop the existing community centre and park. We will soon be consulting with residents again as we work to take these plans forward.

“By extending, refurbishing and reconfiguring the centre, it is our intention to breathe new life into the complex and provide much needed social and leisure activities for local residents and the wider Druridge Bay community.

“By making improvements to the park we hope to provide a place that can be enjoyed by all ages of the community.”
