The daffodils are out, the schools have broken up and we’re all hoping for some Easter sunshine.

But don’t let your hopes soar too high as we look set for a mixture of sunshine, rain, fog and even snow.

Here’s the Met Office’s North East forecast for the coming days:

Today:

After a chilly and frosty start, the day will be dry with some sunny spells. However, sunshine will become increasingly hazy in the afternoon as cloud increases from the west. Maximum Temperature 9C.

Tonight:

Thickening cloud and outbreaks of rain will spread from the west overnight, with some snow likely across the Cheviots and Pennines. Minimum Temperature 1C.

Friday:

Rain and hill snow will become lighter and more patchy on Friday, but it will stay cloudy with some fog on the hills. Maximum Temperature 8C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Although the odd light shower can’t be ruled out, most parts should be dry with some bright or sunny intervals over the weekend and into Easter Monday.
