Northumberland residents will get a taste of what’s heading their way next year when a 200ft ship calls in this summer.
The impressive Stavros S Niarchos will be visiting Blyth and hosting an open day for the public ahead of the {http://www.northumberlandgazette.co.uk/news/local-news/tall-ships-sailing-into-northumberland-in-2016-1-7171491|Tall Ships Regatta in 2016|The announcement of the Tall Ships Regatta at Blyth.}, which was announced last month.
She will be arriving at the port of Blyth with 40 students from Emmanuel Schools Foundation on board following their 10-night voyage from Southampton. She will be open to the public from noon to 5pm on Saturday, June 27.
Stavros S Niarchos is a brig, a sailing vessel with two square-rigged masts. She is the biggest ship of its kind to be built in the UK in a century and the open day will provide the public with the opportunity to go on board, explore her magnificent decks and learn more about a modern-day square-rigged brig.
The Tall Ships Youth Trust, a charity founded in 1956 that is dedicated to the personal development of young people through the crewing of ocean-going sail training vessels, will be hosting a sponsored rig-climb in the morning (10am-noon) before the open day.
