A CLASSIC children’s television character is being used by the Morpeth branch of Leeds Building Society to support a charity.

The Bridge Street outlet is selling Bagpuss pin badges for a suggested donation of £1 in aid of Asthma UK until Friday, December 16.

Asthma affects 5.4 million people in the UK, this equates to one in five households, one in 12 people and one in 11 children.

Three people a day die from the condition — 90 percent of the deaths from asthma are preventable.

Morpeth Branch Manager Denise Godwin said: “We are very pleased to be supporting Asthma UK by selling its Bagpuss pin badges.

“This campaign provides a great opportunity for our staff and customers in Morpeth to raise awareness of this very common condition, whilst raising essential funds towards research and prevention.”
