A POPULAR local group will bring all the fun of The Pirates of Penzance to Morpeth.

The Mid Northumberland Chorus will perform the concert version of the Gilbert and Sullivan classic comic opera, with its hummable tunes, witty banter, rough pirates, reluctant policemen and young love.

It promises to be an occasion that all the family can enjoy.

The part of Mabel, the young female lead, will be sung by soprano Jane Jackson, with tenor Alex Banfield singing the part of Frederick. The concerts will be conducted by Paul Toward, with Ken Irvine as accompanist.

In Morpeth, the performance will take place at Chantry Middle School Hall in Mitford Road on Saturday, from 7.30pm.

However, for those unable to make it that night, they can see the group at Holy Sepulchre Church in Ashington tomorrow (Friday), or All Saints Church in Rothbury on Wednesday, with both concerts starting at 7.30pm.

There will also be a concert at St Cuthbert’s Church in Norham on Tweed on Saturday, May 5, at 7pm. Tickets cost £7 for adults and £4 for children and can be bought on the door, or booked in advance on 01670 790268.
