COUNTY schools came together to celebrate the success of their healthy lifestyles.
Certificates were presented at an event at The Alnwick Garden, where Northumberland County Council’s Children’s Services Health and Wellbeing team organised activities throughout the day.
Sessions were led by the Newcastle United Foundation and Jays Animal Encounters.
King Edward VI School student Kate Charlton enjoyed the festivities with staff member Sarah Bulman and Healthy Schools Co-ordinator Catherine Middleton.
She said: “The day was great fun and gave us the chance to see what other schools have been doing to make their school a healthy one.
“We saw some of the primary/first schools perform their interpretation of a healthy school and we got the chance to see some of the strangest looking animals I had ever seen.”
Others in attendance included Belsay First School, Tritlington First School and Ponteland High School.
The National Healthy School programme ended in 2011, but the council continued it locally.
Executive Member for Children and Young People Lesley Rickerby said: “The success of this programme is shown by the response from the children and young people themselves, saying they feel healthier, happier and more involved in their learning, and often feel better.”
