MAJOR works on Morpeth’s new supermarket will begin on Monday.
These include the bulk earthworks at the site in Low Stanners, along with the Cotting Burn diversion scheme.
This will see an increase in the amount of traffic going to and from the site entrance – the former Northumberland County Council depot entrance – although site traffic will not be using Staithes Lane for access.
The demolition of the existing depot buildings will continue following the Christmas break and vegetation will be cleared to the north east of the site.
The bus link widening on Stanley Terrace has already been completed.
Tolent Construction Ltd is carrying out the works on behalf of supermarket developer Dransfield Properties. The 50,000 sq ft food store is scheduled to open in spring 2013.
