A MORPETH-BASED cartoonist who regularly produces images for the The Times newspaper has illustrated the cover of a Northumberland author’s anticipated follow-up book.
Barry Stone has made his mark over the past couple of years with a novel called Barking At Winston, which is the first volume in a quartet called The Winston Tails.
He has known David Haldane, who has also supplied cartoons to many other national newspapers and publications, for quite a few years and when he heard that the second volume Winston And The Canny Lass will soon be brought out by London publisher Berry Press, Mr Stone had an opportunity to ask his friend if he wanted to do something for the book.
Mr Haldane said: “We were at a dinner party hosted by a mutual friend not long after Barry heard the news about the second book coming out and he asked me if I would illustrate the cover.
“Given the success of Barking At Winston, I was more than happy to oblige and now that the design is done, the cover looks so good I’ll be adding it to my portfolio.”
Mr Stone believes that his friend has perfectly caught the tone of a book which while often being comical, deals with serious themes.
He said: “Around 300 copies of Barking At Winston were sold in Morpeth, so I’m hoping that people will be eager to read the sequel.”
Winston And The Canny Lass will receive its regional launch in Newcastle in May and will become widely available from bookshops throughout the UK.
