FREE energy efficiency checks are being offered by Age UK Northumberland.

The charity is encouraging people to call its advice line to check if they are eligible for Warm Home Discounts, which could reduce electricity bills by £120 for the next four years, as well as to make sure they are not missing out on benefits or tax credits.

The service also provides free leaflets with tips on cutting fuel bills for winter.

People may be able to benefit from a free home Energy Efficiency Check, funded by energy company E.On and carried out through the Age UK Northumberland handy person service.

Workers will assess the efficiency of the home, give advice on how to save energy and, where appropriate, install simple efficiency measures such as draught proofing.

Day Services Development Manager Elizabeth Simpson said: “With over 3.5m older people in fuel poverty, energy efficiency is top of our agenda.

“After two very cold winters we want to help older people prepare so that they can be confident that their home is as energy efficient as possible.”

The advice line is available from 10am to 1pm, Monday to Thursday, on 08450 950150 or 01665 605707.

Tips on how to cut energy bills can also be found online at www.bigenergyweek.org.uk
