Organisers of the Picnic In The Park, an afternoon of family entertainment in Carlisle Park organised by the Greater Morpeth Development Trust, took the difficult decision to cancel the event because of the weather.
This year the event was to have had an Emily Wilding Davison theme. In particular, members of St George’s Players ( a Morpeth based Amateur Dramatics Society) together with young people from the area were to parade in suffragette costumes, to raise awareness of Emily Wilding Davison and the achievements of the suffragette movement.
Visitors were to be be offered the chance to work with an artist to create an ‘Emily Wilding Davison’mural which was to become a permanent fixture in the park.
