Chart-topping band The Christians have been announced as the headline act for a free music festival this summer.
The legendary soul band, famed for hits such as Forgotten Town, Harvest for the World, Born Again and Ideal World, will be joined by a host of musicians from Northumberland and the North East.
Northumberland Live will be held at Blyth Beach Mermaid car park in August.
The Christians lead singer Garry Christian, the distinctive face and voice of the band, will present an award to the winners of the Northumberland Live best band contest – organised by Northeast Press, publisher of the Morpeth Herald, to find the best musicians in the county.
Northumberland County Council Heritage and Events Development Manager James Fell said: “It is fantastic that we’ve attracted such a great band as our headline act for Northumberland Live.
“The mix of music throughout the day will appeal to many different audiences and make this a successful family event. I would also like to thank Blyth Valley Arts and Leisure for sponsoring the headline act and making it possible for us to bring such a high quality act to Northumberland.”
Organisers are urging people to sign up at www.northumberlandlive.org to get the latest on the line-ups and be in with a chance of winning exclusive prizes.
Northumberland Live will run from noon until around 8pm on Saturday, August 23, and will also feature street theatre, fairground rides and food.
