The organisers of a major charity exhibition in Morpeth are making good progress.
One of the most popular aspects of the Morpeth Matters Facebook site has been the showcasing of members’ photographs of the area and this sparked an idea to set up a special event in aid of a good cause.
Earlier in the autumn, all amateur photographers were invited to submit their pictures via the page to be considered for the exhibition on Wednesday, December 3 in Morpeth Town Hall.
And the response from the public has been excellent.
One of the organising committee, David Clark, said: “We are now less than a month from the exhibition and this is where our work becomes even more difficult.
“We are faced with the exciting task of selecting 150 photographs from approximately 800 that have been uploaded to our submission page.”
Fellow committee member Rachael Hogg added: “The premise of the event was to invite amateur photographers to submit their photographs of Morpeth for consideration as part of the exhibition, and we have been presented with many beautiful and iconic shots of Morpeth and its surrounding parishes.”
All proceeds will be donated to Henry Dancer Days, a charity set up by member Jane Nattrass in memory of her son to provide help for families of children with cancer, particularly Osteosarcoma and Ewings sarcoma.
In addition, a warm invitation has been extended to the people of Morpeth to purchase a ticket for the preview event, which is taking place in the same venue on Tuesday, December 2.
Organising committee member Barbara Ross said: “It will be a wonderful evening with a glass of wine, a mince pie and a chance to meet and talk to our local photographers, as well as to preview the photographs.
“There will be an auction and lots of surprises on the evening and there will also be some live music. We are delighted that the Mayor has agreed to open the event.
“Tickets, priced £5, are now available and may be purchased from Bin 21 on Bridge Street, Cafe des Amis in Newgate Street or from the Sun Inn, High Church.

The December 3 event will be open to the public and free to enter, with donations requested. Tea and coffee will be available.
Another of the organisers, Coun Bob Robertson, said: “We are delighted that Ken Stait has agreed to support us with the event and our friends at Morpeth Camera Club have also provided us with advice and encouragement.”
