THERE was mixed fortunes for two community buildings at the latest Pegswood Parish Council meeting.
Pegswood Community Project was successful in its application for £9,500.
But despite receiving £300 for the rest of the current financial year, councillors deferred a decision on Pegswood Welfare Centre’s £4,000 bid for next year, giving it a deadline to show that plans are in place to secure its future.
The authority wants a detailed business plan to be drawn up for a meeting with landowner Welbeck Estates on December 12 before it meets the following week.
Chairman Simon Willcox said: “The people at the Welfare have admitted they don’t have the expertise to do a business plan, but it has been offered to them and so far they haven’t taken it up.”
Deputy Clerk Kevin Cassie said that although the volunteers work hard to keep services going, members have to consider whether they think it has a long term future as the lease runs out in nine years time.
The money that will be given to the Project is £1,600 more than its 2011/12 allocation.
A total of £5,000 will contribute towards core costs, with £1,000 each for building maintenance, an informal learning programme, the over 50’s group and activities for children, and £500 to help pay for Highlights Rural Touring Scheme shows.
