Northumberland should lead the way in the tourism business, politician Julie Porksen has said.
The Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Berwick says that forecasts by VisitBritain suggest that spending by overseas visitors to the UK will increase to a record £22billion this year, with 35.1 million trips expected.
In Northumberland 13,200 jobs are supported by tourism, about 13 per cent of total employment in the county.
Ms Porksen said: “Tourism is an essential part of Northumberland’s economy. Government figures show 2015 could really be the year of opportunity for tourism and I want Northumberland to lead the way.
“I hope that the county council will work with businesses and local councils to promote tourism.”
