AN annual police charity event has launched a drive to find potential beneficiaries.
The Northumbria Police Pro-Am Charity Golf Tournament has raised almost £500,000 for good causes since it began in 1986.
And last year four charities – The Calvert Trust Kielder, Over The Wall, Slaley Group Riding for the Disabled Association and Gateshead Crossroads Care – shared almost £20,000 from the event.
Now the search is on to find local organisations to benefit from next year’s tournament, which will take place at Matfen Hall on July 12.
Assistant Chief Officer Bernie McCardle said: “As a police force we have a prominent role within life in the Northumbria area and working closely with local communities is an important part of our work.
“With the help of local businesses, the Pro-Am has been dedicated to supporting charitable organisations for more than a quarter of a century.”
He added: “We want to continue building on this support and are looking for local organisations which help support the people of the region.
“It’s always beneficial if the charity can let us know what any money raised will be specifically used for.”
Any charitable organisations who want to apply for next year’s fund-raising should write to Secretary for Assistant Chief Officer (Corporate Services), Northumbria Police Headquarters, North Road, Ponteland, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE20 0BL.
