A RADIOLOGY recruitment drive is under way for Northumberland’s hospitals.

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, which provides hospital services north of the Tyne, is seeking six new Consultant Radiologists.

The recruits will work across the trust’s hospitals, including Wansbeck and the new Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington from 2014.

They will join an 11-strong team of consultants, leading 180 radiology staff.

The trust has made substantial investment in its radiology service in recent years and manages work across three busy x-ray departments, diagnosing hundreds of thousands of patients, as well as carrying out CT, MRI and ultrasound scans.

The new hospital will have four general radiography rooms, along with two CT scanners, three ultrasound systems and a new MRI system.

It is hoped that national and international candidates will apply for the new posts.

Medical Director David Evans said: “This is a very exciting time to be joining our organisation as we look to expand our radiology service in the run up to the new Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital.

“Our Consultant Radiologists and their teams play a central role in the fast diagnosis and treatment of our patients every single day and we are investing in this service even further to bring more senior clinicians into post as we move towards our new model of emergency care.”

The closing date for applications is Saturday, November 3.
